About Sydney
Hi students and families! My name is Sydney, and I’m an elementary, academic intervention, and special education teacher with 5+ years of teaching and tutoring experience. I can't wait to learn with you! As a licensed literacy specialist, helping students build their foundational reading and writing skills is one of my favorite parts of teaching. I love watching their confidence grow — not only as readers and writers, but also as explorers and creators. The relationships I develop with my students, and the progress we make together, fill me with joy and gratitude for the transformative work I get to do. I earned my B.S.Ed. in Childhood and Special Education from SUNY Geneseo before going on to complete my M.S.Ed. in Childhood Literacy at the University at Albany. As a mom myself, I understand how impactful the interactions and relationships we nurture at home can be on a child’s educational journey. That’s why I truly value open communication with families! As a certified literacy specialist, my reading and writing lessons will always include phonemic awareness (breaking apart and blending the sounds in spoken words to support), phonics (learning about spelling patterns), practicing reading and writing words using patterns we've learned, writing sentences and practicing grammar, “heart words” or sight words, and reading text from real books! I use research-based practices and curriculum for real progress and results. I monitor students’ growth over time and collect data to ensure my teaching is effective and make adjustments as needed!
