About Evelyn

I understand what it feels like to be a student while also balancing a life outside of school. I was a mom while completing my own education, so I understand that finding time to study can be difficult and that sometimes you are simply trying to fit one more assignment into an already busy schedule.

I also understand that accounting may not be your major. It may simply be one required course you need to get through, and that is completely okay. My goal is to meet you where you are, listen to what you are struggling with, and explain the material in a way that makes sense to you. I am patient, understanding, and comfortable slowing things down or explaining a concept in several different ways until it clicks.

Along with my personal experience as a student and parent, I bring more than 10 years of professional accounting experience. My background includes both industry and public accounting, from general accounting functions for local businesses to professional audit work with regional and national accounting firms. I hold both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree and am a Certified Public Accountant.

My strongest areas are general accounting, financial accounting, debits and credits, reconciliations, financial statements, accounting processes, and auditing. I also have general tax knowledge and can help explain basic tax concepts that may come up in coursework. However, I believe in being transparent about my experience: I do not currently practice tax accounting, and I would not consider myself a tax expert. For advanced tax law, complex tax planning, or highly specialized tax questions, a tutor who primarily practices in taxation may be a better fit.

I want students to feel comfortable asking questions without worrying that they “should already know” the answer. Accounting can be challenging, especially when the concepts are new, but it becomes much easier when someone takes the time to break down how everything connects and flows together.

My goal is to create a professional, supportive, and judgment-free learning environment where you can ask questions freely, build confidence, strengthen your understanding, and leave each session feeling more prepared than when you started.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is practical, patient, and focused on making difficult accounting concepts feel simple and manageable. I like to break information down step by step so students can understand not only what they are doing, but why they are doing it.

I understand that many students may not have professional or real-world accounting experience yet, so I connect accounting concepts to situations they already understand from everyday life. I may use examples involving budgeting, purchases, bills, savings, jobs, or other familiar situations to make the material feel less abstract and easier to relate to.

I can work directly from your class syllabus, lesson plans, homework, study guides, textbook materials, or exam reviews. A typical session begins by identifying the areas you are struggling with most. From there, I break the concept down into simple terms, explain how the pieces connect, and work through examples with you until the process starts to make sense.

My goal is not to have students simply memorize rules or copy answers. I want you to understand how accounting concepts work together and how information flows from one step to the next. Once you understand the overall process, individual problems and assignments usually become much easier to complete independently.
I tailor each lesson to the individual student and their learning style. Some students need more visual examples, some need repetition, and others simply need someone to explain the same concept in a different way than it was presented in class. I am happy to adjust my teaching approach based on what helps you understand the material best.

I am available to tutor students at a variety of grade and degree levels, from students learning basic accounting concepts through college and university-level coursework. I can assist with financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, accounting fundamentals, Excel, homework review, exam preparation, and other related business and accounting courses.

Above all, I want students to leave each session feeling less overwhelmed, more confident, and with a stronger understanding of the material than when they started.
