About
I love to teach and watch the "lightbulb" go on when true learning happens. I believe every student can learn if given the correct opportunity. My journey into education is personal and driven by my own child's learning difficulties. When everyone was telling me he couldn't, I stood back and said "yes he can". That is the philosophy I carry with me every day into the classroom. Mindset is so crucial and so I tell my students to never say "I can't". Rather, they should refocus and say "I can't do it YET!".

I am dedicated to improving reading and comprehension using the science of reading (SOR) approach. Each student is met "where they are at" and based on evaluation and data has a lesson tailored to their specific academic need. My lesson plans follow the "I do, we do, you do" methodology which provides teacher modeling and think alouds, then guided practice where student and teacher work together, and ending with independent student practice. I see each student as an individual with a unique set of needs and believe that no one lesson or curriculum will work with all students. The focus should be on strengths to build upon the "needs" so that students will grow successfully.
