About Jake
I'm the child of a public school teacher, and I've thought of myself as a teacher my entire life. I love seeing the 'click' of understanding in students and watching them grow and develop their skills. I am especially passionate about mentoring students from backgrounds that are typically underrepresented in STEM!

Lots of experience teaching at all levels. My approach to teaching is to develop a strong conceptual foundation of the subject - it must make a lot of intuitive sense before we solve the problem! Then, we solidify our understanding by working lots of problems. This allows us to master the techniques for answering questions quickly and effectively. Through my two approaches, students become strong in both qualitative reasoning and quantitative skills, both necessary for acing science exams. My specialty is in physical chemistry (PChem), and I can also teach high school math, calculus, general chemistry, and general physics.
