About Peiyu

I am a professional and experienced Mandarin teacher. I am not only a native speaker, but I've received systemic education regarding teaching Mandarin. My bachelor degree is English Education, and my first master's degree is Developmental and Educational Psychology. I also completed my second master's degree TESOL at the University of Nottingham. I am a certificated teacher of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (CTCSOL). My academic background proves that I have enough experience in teaching English and Chinese.

About the lesson

I will pay closer attention to students' learning needs in my classes. Specifically, I will tailor my lesson plan for all students with different requirement according to their specific learning needs.
Native speakers' accent is not that important: I won't expect you to speak like a native speaker, but I will teach you how to communicate with them. Just like me, I have been studying English for more than twenty years, I still cannot say that my English sounds like a native speaker, but you can understand what I communicate to you right now.
If you are a beginner, I will help you to start with the basic Pinyin and tones. If you are intermediate level students, we can have daily conversations. I will prepare some authentic materials for you to learn.
Making mistakes is totally fine. Don't worry if you make mistakes. I think all of them are great opportunities for you to learn new things.
Before the class, I can prepare you a handout. After the class, I will provide what you have learned today and some error corrections for you to review.
If you learn with me, you will find a brand new world of learning Chinese. My class is learner-centred, you will be engaged and motivated throughout the lesson. You will have a fantastic learning experience.

Peiyu is my PhD colleague who is a kind, professional, and passionate Chinese tutor! She taught me Chinese Pinyin and simple speaking skills, which improved my confidence in traveling to China. I really liked her learner-centered teaching methods and authenticity. She asked me about my specific needs in learning Chinese and designed the lessons accordingly! She used authentic and interesting teaching materials as well, including ads, newspapers, TV, and film clips. I have learned very practical and authentic Chinese from her lessons. So I highly recommend Peiyu to all of you who want to learn authentic Chinese and boost confidence in learning a new language! I definitely want to learn more Chinese from her if she has extra time :)
