About Isaac
Hi! I’m Isaac Prince, a clarinettist, saxophonist, and teacher based in Hitchin. I graduated with Distinction from the Royal College of Music, where I studied as an HR Taylor Trust Scholar, and also hold a First-Class Bachelor’s degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
I work with the UK's leading orchestras such as the Royal Opera House, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC, but teaching has always been at the heart of what I do. I love helping students of all ages build confidence, enjoy their playing, and make steady, meaningful progress through diligent practise and regular lessons.

Every student I teach brings something different to the lessons - a unique combination of personality, goals, and ways of learning. My teaching places this individuality at the centre. I draw from professional orchestral experience and performance psychology to create lessons that make progress feel natural, engaging, and rewarding.
I strongly believe that the best teacher helps the student become their own teacher. That means not just learning what to do, but understanding why it works! Together, we focus on clear goals, smart practice strategies, and developing confidence and ability through curiosity and self-reflection. These methods have shaped me over the last decade, learning from some of the world’s leading musicians and educators — the same principles that helped me reach my current position, performing and auditioning successfully with many of the UK’s top orchestras.
A typical lesson combines several "ingredients" that are essential for steady, consistent improvment and holistic musicianship.
+ Fundamentals: You can’t bake a great cake with poor ingredients! The finest musicians master the basics and keep them strong. We focus on things like breathing and support, posture, finger position, tone, and rhythm - all directly linked to the music you’re learning, so nothing ever feels abstract.
+ Repertoire & Musicality: Whether you’re working on exam pieces, jazz studies, or personal favourites, we explore phrasing, expression, and style — because we’re playing music, not operating machines!
+ Mindset & Practice Skills: Work smarter, not harder. I love using “practice hacks” drawn from performance psychology to make your practice time efficient, creative, and frustration-free. You’ll learn how to identify problems and fix them with confidence.
+ Guidance between lessons: This is often where the real growth happens. Each student receives a practice diary (digital or paper — your choice) to help structure sessions and track progress. I encourage you to log what you’ve worked on and note discoveries or challenges. Practice should never be mindless or feel like a chore — it’s a process of exploration. I’m always available on WhatsApp for motivation, questions, or a quick tip during the week.
I recommend lesson lengths based on each student’s age and ability. 30-minute lessons suit young beginners, 45-minute lessons work well for developing players, teens, and adult learners of any level, and 60-minute lessons are ideal for advanced students, dedicated learners, or anyone wanting to learn music theory in tandem. Lessons can take place in Hitchin, online, or at your home, depending on travel times.
I’m happy to advise on instrument setup, peripheral equipment, exam paths etc. Get in touch to chat about your goals!
