About Summer
Hi, I'm Summer! I'm a computer science student with a focus in data science, and I’ve always had a deep love for math. Whether it’s solving complex problems or finding simple ways to explain tricky concepts, math has always felt like a language I enjoy speaking - and helping others understand it is something I genuinely love. I’ve spent years tutoring classmates, friends, and students in subjects ranging from algebra to Calculus II. I’ve also worked as a TA at my university, where I was praised for being approachable, clear, and patient. I know how frustrating math can feel at times, so I work hard to create a friendly, low-pressure space where students feel comfortable asking questions and growing their confidence. My tutoring approach focuses on clarity, confidence, and collaboration. I usually begin by asking students to walk me through a problem until they get stuck - this helps me quickly understand what they know and where they’re struggling. I also ask them to bring multiple problems of each type they’re having trouble with, or I’ll find some myself. From there, I walk them through the steps slowly and clearly, making sure not to skip anything, no matter how small. I want students to truly understand why each step is taken, not just how. Once they start grasping it, we’ll go back and forth through more problems until they can confidently explain their reasoning across different types of questions. I also offer tips and tricks along the way to help them remember concepts. What sets me apart is that I create a friendly, no-pressure space where students feel comfortable asking questions. I do prep work before each session so we can use our time efficiently, and I personalize every lesson to fit the student’s needs. I’ve been a TA at my college and have consistently received great feedback from students for being approachable, patient, and genuinely helpful. I tutor students from elementary school up through AP Calculus BC and college-level Calculus II.
