About Caroline

Hi, my name is Caroline, and I'm a writer based in London. I am the author of two novels (and soon to start my third!) who loves to read, go to the theatre, and travel.

I have a First from Durham University in Classics (BA). Dreaming of becoming an author, I then did an MFA in Creative Writing at City, where I graduated in 2023 with Distinction. I am now set to start a PhD in Creative Writing this coming September. I also write poetry and am the owner of a poetry in the mail business.

I work as a freelance copywriter, editor, and translator as well as mentoring in creative writing.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi! My name is Caroline and I have a BA from Durham University in Classics and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from City, the University of London, which includes a Teaching Creative Writing component. I am also set to start a PhD in Creative Writing next year.

I am the author of two novels, a psychological thriller set in Florence and a YA comedy/romance. I am currently planning and researching for my third novel (contemporary fiction) as I look for a literary agent.

I have several years of experience working as an editor and proofreader, and have been a member of writing workshops (some of which I ran myself) since 2021. Between 2018 and 2020 I worked as a Beta reader, reviewing short stories, fan fiction, and full-length novel drafts. I currently act as a 'first reader' for two authors, offering critical feedback and line-edit proofreading. In the past, I have also worked as a literature and classics tutor, particularly with A Level students. At the moment, I am also working as a freelance copywriter and editor.

In other words, I am no stranger to editing, proofreading, and offering creative feedback on writing!

Writing a novel is hard, but learning the basics of structure, pacing, dialogue, setting and characterisation can truly help you establish firm foundations with your writing and learn skills you'll carry with you for life. I also find it can be incredibly helpful to get a second pair of eyes/perspective on your work. To get the opportunity to chat through a scene/chapter with another person is priceless!

The structure of classes usually involves the student sending a piece of writing (max three thousand words) a few days prior to the class. We will then meet to discuss the scene for a one hour class. I will also send the student my written line edits/feedback I made directly on their document. A different approach involves creative writing exercises completed during the class, using the 'flow state' writing method, followed by discussion and shorter homework exercises.

Sharing your creative work can feel daunting, but know that constructive criticism and kindness is at the heart of my teaching practice. We're here to improve, and the only way to do that is to write, write, and write!
