About John
I am a trumpet player for Oregon State’s symphony orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and marching band. This past summer, I went on a trip to Rio de Janeiro with the Oregon State Wind Ensemble as the principal Trumpet player. We performed at an international band conference called WASBE, and did a culture exchange with a local music school.
Some solo repertoire I have been working on recently include:
• Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in Eb
• Eric Ewazen’s sonata for piano and trumpet
• Vassily Brant’s Second concert piece for trumpet
• Henry Purcell’s sonata in D
I am also really into jazz, and often busk using many standards I know. My favorite to play is “It Could Happen to You”
It is my career goal to become a middle school band director. Teaching private lessons before entering public schools is one of the best things that I can do to ready myself for this career. I have had one student for two years now, and I have room in my schedule for up to 13 more.

I offer lessons for beginning-intermediate brass players and more advanced trumpet players. I offer weekly (once a week) lessons for 30 minutes or 1 hour. I am available for lessons from 10am-8pm on Saturdays, and 12am-8pm on Sundays. I would walk them through warm-ups, help them with technique, build upon their tone and flexibility, and guide them through literature that interests them. My biggest goal in private lessons is to help young musicians find joy in music while improving their skills.
