My teaching approach always considers the specific needs and experience of the student. From the basics in music theory and composition to more advanced subjects, I'll always make sure learning is structured and paced appropriately. You'll learn many of the theoretical aspects of theory/composition as well as growing your own unique approach to learning about and writing music.
My Brass Major is Trombone, however, I have the qualifications to be able to teach Trumpet, Cornet, Euphonium, French Horn and Saxophone as well. I plan my lessons around the students needs, anything from school band pieces to AMEB exams. I am a Jazz music major, however, I have extensive professional experience in orchestra settings as well.
I use the Essential Elements 2000 book for beginners and the Arbans Tutor for more advanced. I also try to incorporate jazz improv into my lessons from reasonably early on.
My lessons are geared towards students who are beginning to learn the trumpet, or have been learning for a few years. I cater for kids and adults and teach music theory as part of the process. I believe learning should be structured, but fun, and encourage students to explore their instrument within their favourite genres.
I base my classes on a practical approach ... bring along your instrument as this is not a music theory approach. By playing together and building from basic blues scales to more esoteric melodic and diminished scales both ear training and proficiency on your instrument will be enhanced.
Every student learns differently and wants to get something different out of playing music. My lessons are individually tailored to suit each students needs. I believe in helping students to achieve a better understanding of how music works theoretically, so they can better appreciate the material they are working on and use it when creating their own compositions.

Teaching is all about supporting, and inspiring your students, and that's exactly what I want to do. As well as teaching good trumpet technique, I'm all about teaching how to play musically and with passion. I take into account each student's situations and can plan accordingly.
My lessons are heavily focused on making regular, tangible progress. Too often the reason people stop learning music is due to feeling stuck. My lessons avoid this through the use of reasonable, achievable goals to be completed within a given time period.
I believe that music is a joy that everyone should be able to experience. It is important for me to listen to what a students musical goals and motivations are and work with the student towards achieving them.
My teacher method is to inspire my students. I want them to grow and love music, without extreme pressure.. I want them to find their own way of musical growth with my guiding. Letting them find their own sound.
As a music teacher I am responsible for instructing students with the skills they will need to become successful musicians in their own right. This includes the basics of teaching how to play an instrument, as well as fundamental concepts such as tempo, pitch and rhythm.
My teaching method is based on the basics first and then adding in all the flare. Foundation is one of the most important things in music and without it it is hard to explore everything else! I try to make my lessons fun and enjoyable.
I am friendly and respectful to others, as I hope my students are to me. Starting out, I would benchmark your skill and see what musical direction you want to head in. Either I will be able to help you out with future lessons or help you contact a more appropriate teacher. I like to keep organised notes on progress, and I will provide lesson plans and a timeline tailored to your area of interest.

I teach anything from improvisation, classical repertoires, jazz music, to even playing by ear. My main focus is to get my students the opportunity to end the sound of this beautiful instrument.
