About Kelly
I have spent over ten years helping people find their unique musical path as both an active composer and a passionate piano performer. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Theory and Composition with a piano emphasis, which gave me a deep understanding of how music works. My lessons focus on music as a lifelong journey of self-expression, rather than just a set of strict rules to memorize.
I specialize in teaching students how to create unique improvisational pieces and develop spontaneous composition skills directly on the keys. I love working with a wide range of pianists, including absolute beginners taking their first steps and highly advanced musicians refining their artistry. For example, I recently helped a classical pianist who was great at reading sheet music but felt completely terrified of playing without a page.
We practiced simple chord mapping and rhythmic breathing, and soon they were composing beautiful melodies completely on the spot. This kind of spontaneous creation builds incredible musical confidence and helps you connect with your instrument on a much deeper level. I tailor my teaching style to match your personal interests so that you always feel excited to sit down and practice.

My teaching methodology focuses on fostering deep creativity and helping you build highly structured musical ideas directly on the keys. We will explore essential creative skills like songwriting for piano, composing melodies and harmonies, and developing strong musical themes. I also teach my students how to construct memorable intros and outros that give their original pieces a highly professional finish.
This creative approach works beautifully for students who use music as a personal outlet to process their emotions and jazz players looking to master complex chords. For instance, I recently worked with a student who wanted to write a comforting song after a difficult year but had no idea how to start. We built a gentle four chord progression and created a peaceful, repeating melody that gave them a beautiful way to express their feelings.
Soon, they had a fully finished piece that they could play with absolute confidence and emotional depth. I make sure to provide all the structural tools and encouragement you need to turn your raw ideas into fully realized compositions. We will practice improvising with different scales and learning how to connect your musical thoughts smoothly.
