Lessons with a passionate, seasoned teacher and professional musician (Royal Academy of Music) that can help you achieve your musical goals! About me: An in demand professional musician that is constantly teaching, performing and creating music. I hold a first class honours degree in jazz drum set playing and I am currently studying for my master of arts. (Royal Academy of Music, RWCMD) I have completed two different music education courses at the Royal Conservatoire Of The Hague and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Deep understanding of all forms of music that contain the drums. ALL styles covered! A teaching studio only a 5 minute walk from Acton Main Line tube station, or a free parking space on our driveway if you desire! 🪪 Enhanced DBS Checked and member of the Musicians' Union Lessons at students address possible Graded exams possible (ABRSM, Trinity, etc.) "One of the few guys here that actually has a sound" - Gregory Hutchinson "It feels that a truly unique voice is burgeoning, one that nods to both British Jazz and tumbling jazz indicative of Nasheet Waits and that finds alignment between disparate moods" - Corrie Dick Hey everyone! Welcome to my music teachers account. Here I hope to display to you me as a musician, my love for teaching and how I go about working with students to help them achieve their goals. I'm George and I have been studying the drums for over a decade now. I am currently in my fifth year at conservatoire studying jazz music. During my time at The Royal Academy of Music (UK), The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (UK), Conservatorium van Amsterdam (NL) and The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (NL) I have been lucky enough to have studied with some incredible world-class tutors such as: John Riley, Gregory Hutchinson, Bill Stewart, Kyle Poole, Eric Ineke, Felix Schlarmann, Martin France, James Maddren, Joshua Blackmore and Robert Brian. My main love and specialism is jazz music, however I have also extensively studied and played: latin/world music, pop, rock and metal. I have always really enjoyed teaching, and have been doing so for the past 7 years. It really gives me joy to see students progressing and I always enjoy passing on knowledge about this instrument. I have completed two music teacher training courses during my studies, one at The Royal Conservatoire and the other at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I received commendations on both courses about the high level of my teaching. Lessons are always centred around the student. I'm a firm believer that the student must have an interest in something for it to be learnt effectively. Therefore I try to balance a line between necessary knowledge (needed for progression) and fun. I find that with beginner students it is best for them to bring music that they love and would like to play to lessons. We can then break down the music together and work out the parts. Not only does this mean the student has learnt new drum beats or fills, but also the technicality behind it (rudiments, articulation etc) and how to use their ear more effectively, something I believe is absolutely essential for every drummer. I also like to get students learning to sight read as soon as possible, as this is an invaluable skill also, but try to keep it as fun and as far away from an "academic approach" as possible. I have my own syllabus of music that I believe all students should study, so it is also possible to look at this if the student is unsure. With more advanced students, I like to go deep into concepts or study. This may lead to transcription or listening homeworks, whatever I think is suitable for the quickest progression. It is also possible to study graded exams, however I would discourage using all your time with me to study grades as I don't think they are hugely helpful in a students development as a rounded musician. I teach from home but can also travel to you! I also offer lessons in music theory, music production and ear training, I am enhanced DBS checked and a member of the musicians union. My other hobbies away from music are reading, cooking, mindfulness studies and language learning. Please don't feel shy to send me a message or give me a call, always happy to chat about drums, music or lessons! I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks! George
