About Abby
I am an undergraduate studying history at Durham University, but have always had a passion for both literature and creative writing. I received 9s in both English literature and English language, and an A* in English literature at A level. During my time at school I tutored peers in English literature, teaching them exam technique, essay structures and ‘cheat codes’ for analysing unseen material. I am a firm believer that English is only difficult when it is not simplified, and I apply this ethos to all of my teaching.

I focus primarily on essay writing and exam technique for 11 plus, GCSE and A level. My main aim is to establish a methodical approach to a subject that people can often find daunting due to its lack of structure. After receiving 9s in both English literature and English language, and an A* at English literature, I feel confident that this method not only works, but helps to produce top results. I took these exams very recently, so am very familiar with the exam boards and what they are looking for, and work very closely with the mark scheme when tutoring to ensure the highest result possible for my pupils.

I really struggled with English but Abby gave me the confidence I needed to develop my skills and achieve my best! She is kind, patient and clearly explains ideas.
Abby helped boost my grades considerably as well as growing confidence in my own ability. Her lessons were fun and not repetitive.
