About Elmi
I am an educational development specialist with published research on learning. I have a Masters and PhD in Educational Psychology I have 20 years experience as an academic at a world class university. I have managed an academic support program for struggling students and scores of students have been successful after completing this program. I am also a life coach, so my approach to students is empathetic, with the aim of unlocking their potential. I am a constructivist, - I believe in student-centered teaching, as opposed to simply giving information. I guarantee academic success after a session with me. I specialise in coaching postgraduate students to overcome the many obstacles as they navigate the lonely and scary journey of a Masters or a PhD. I provide high level, tailored support. I am an education specialist with a PhD in Education. I therefore structure my lessons to ensure a constructive outcome for the student at the end of the session. I follow the GROW model in my teaching - i.e. - we agree on a goal for the session (G), we then explore the student's current realities of dealing with the subject to identify barriers (R), I then move onto removing the barriers by exposing the learner to the correct information through various teaching techniques to ensure learning does take place - so I consider various options that will work best (O), and finally we agree on a way forward (W) to ensure the student will be able to apply this knowledge.. I teach in English and Arikaans - tertiary students will benefit.
