About Leona

Hello! My name is Leona, and I'm a Chinese based in the UK. I'm a PhD student majoring in Education. For nearly a decade, I've taught university students Chinese reading and listening. At the same time, I enjoy teaching conversational Chinese to students from all around the world, and assisting them to reach new levels of fluency! From my own language learning experience as a student of English, I believe that conversational Chinese lessons with a native speaker are an intuitive and immersive way to advance fluency, while also offering the lovely opportunity of cultural exchange.

About the lesson

As a tutor and Chinese language instructor, my approach is student-centered and tailored to meet the individual needs and goals of each student. I believe that language learning should be engaging, interactive, and fun, and I strive to create a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.

In my tutoring sessions and Chinese classes, I use a variety of teaching methods and materials, including textbooks, multimedia resources, and authentic materials such as news articles, songs, and movies. I also incorporate games, role-plays, and other interactive activities to help students practice and apply what they have learned.

When teaching Chinese, I prioritize the development of all language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I provide ample opportunities for students to practice their speaking skills, and I encourage them to use the language as much as possible. I also emphasize the importance of developing good pronunciation and intonation, as these are crucial elements of effective communication in Chinese.

I believe that language learning is not just about acquiring vocabulary and grammar, but also about developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of the culture and people who speak the language.
