About Liya
I’m Liya Tom, a first-class graduate with master’s in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. I currently pursue PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. I have a great love towards Mathematics and its application towards real world, hence I chose engineering as my career path. I have always been passionate about this subject as well as my degree and I would love to share any knowledge I have to the students of next generation. I have a great love towards teaching, and I have built up considerable experiences and life skills that will allow me to become an efficient and competent tutor. I believe I am positive person who is highly organised and reliable. I possess in-depth knowledge of my subject and I can adapt my teaching style to suit different levels of ability. I am the type of person who can adapt to any role and make a positive impact on the students I teach. Possessing excellent leadership quality allows me to work confidently with any group of people even under pressure or large workload. I have been tutoring for more than 10 years and like to continue this work in different platforms with different students fromvarious backgrounds and ability. Teaching hasbeen my passion and i like to take it forward as much as i an in my later career.

Generally, I adapt my teaching style depending on the student’s preference and their ability. However, the two methods I prefer include,
Inquiry based method: This approach encourages the students to develop their problem solving and critical thinking skills. During this approach I guide and teach the students and allow them to choose the topics which they want to focus. I will also help the students to think through the process, teach them all the possible methods and encouraging them to try out different approaches.
Personalised method: This is a student-centered approach where I focus on each individual and their unique strengths and weaknesses. The learning and teaching will be tailored to each student based on the individualised instruction. This will allow the students to learn in a much faster pace whilst focussing on their topic of interest.
