About Keely

Over 10 years' experience as a tutor in English language and literature at Oxford University, also covering Oxford Admissions procedures. In addition, I am a professionally trained copy-editor and proofreader with over 10 years' experience in preparing documents and research papers for final issue. My last graduate student achieved Distinction in their dissertation; I tutor Gifted and Talented primary-school students in preparation for the entrance exams to selective schools; while all my undergraduates at Oxford achieved first-class or II:i degrees. I can teach English language and literature from Old English through to modern times, history, and historical linguistics. I can teach non-native, primary, secondary, GCSE or A-level, undergraduate and research students. At Oxford I specialised in medieval languages; my doctoral thesis was entitled 'Comic Verse in Older Scots' (2000), and I have published academic articles and reviews in the field of late medieval English and Scots. Taught undergraduates (one-to-one and classes), postgraduates, A-level, GCSE and primary-level tutoring. Have also taught English to non-native learners. Full knowledge of National Curriculum requirements for primary literacy in English (grammar, reading, writing);

About the lesson

I start by establishing a respectful and ambitious learning relationship with a student. I want to know a student's interests, be aware of strengths and weaknesses, identify goals and fears. From there, I would construct a learning strategy that would be tailored to my student's needs; and in the role of a personal tutor/mentor, the student would be assured of my full support and attention.
