About Joe
Hi there!
I'm Joe, A recent graduate (2020) with a 2:1 in English & Film from the Manchester Metropolitan University. I have extensive Written and oral communication skills - with the ability to construct an argument, present an idea, and provide background information on a variety of cultural issues. I have experience working with young people within a supported living facility. Some of my key skills are:
· An ability to write and speak with clarity and precision.
· Skilled in a variety of research methods, with the ability to appropriately present and articulate using a broad vocabulary and use of critical terminology.
· Extensive knowledge of literary, filmic, and cultural texts. This has furthered my ability and keenness to explore other people and their cultures through their literary background and traditions.
I am a creative, curious, compassionate, objective and opinionated individual - someone with a positive outlook, and a self-start attitude with an ability to look at situations through a critical lens. Futhermore, I believe that all students have the fundamental right to have access to a successful and fulfilling education in order to be productive and valuable members of society. I take on a holistic, flexible and differentiated pedagogical approach to teaching, to allow for inclusivity within my classroom domains.

My teaching methods are one of my own lived experiences from school and university. As a self-motivated learner, I found that most lectures were at best inefficient and at worst a waste of time. More significantly, I found that being forced to learn a specified syllabus and then regurgitate the material in essays or examinations actually reduced my interest in learning more about the subject. My best learning then and since has been due to intrinsic interest, usually oriented to a practical purpose. One university subject I took was completely different from the others in that the students played a major role in deciding format, content and assessment; I remember it as by far the most effective learning experience in three years of classes.
