I usually teach English using the Engage, Study, Activate (ESA) methodology:
- Engage: meant to capture the student's interest, warm up, get the student to the required energy level and comfort for the class.
Ex: I love using games.
- Study: the time to introduce and practice new content.
Ex: a structured exercise or a scripted conversation.
- Activate: the student applies knowledge in communicative situations.
Ex: less structured interaction or raising the bar a little bit.
From there, we can go through different cycles that can use the classic E-S-A or use such steps in different sequences (E-S-S-A, E-S-E-S-A).
