About Richard
I was born and grew up in the United States but I always have liked adventure. So, 10 years ago I decided to go live abroad for a few years and improve my language skills. I found jobs giving classes in order to pay my living expenses. Most of early experience was in language schools and during this time I had hundreds of students. I also worked as an ESL teacher in a high school in Mexico for a time. Once I had experience, I started doing one-on-one classes both in person and online. Recently I completed a science degree in Mexico which is where I gained experience reviewing scientific journals. And my time in university helped my Spanish to improve greatly and became fluent. I can read and write Portuguese at a moderate level in addition to my English and Spanish.

I have given classes to students of all ages (from children to senior citizens) and at all levels of proficiency. My main idea for my classes is that I try to cater my lessons to the needs of the students., my lessons can be more grammar/writing focused or more conversation focused (depending on the student’s level or wishes). I like to determine the students’ level either through conversation or through simple exercises so that I can best design a class which fits the need of each individual. I also like to incorporate games and videos into my lessons, especially for younger students. I have presentations and activities prepared to accommodate these different levels of learning. I also have experience with essay and scientific article composition in university. More recently I have focused on reviewing papers for publishing in science journals for clients abroad as well as in the USA. This usually involves a video session with the client and explaining errors in their grammar or guiding them through a more natural English writing style.
