About Christopher

I have played the piano and cello since the age of five, initially learning with Suzuki method, listening to discs and imitating on the piano. During school, I did AMEB grades 4 to 8, (you only need grade 6 to become a teacher). Whilst most teachers are fixated solely on precision and technique, what I have learned over my time playing is that the beauty in music is in the feeling. This is why I will also focus on this during our lessons once essential technique is developed. In my experience, the most effective strategy is to challenge and inspire students to reach their full potential which is usually beyond their expectations. I have long had a passion for music, and one thing that has nurtured this was having freedom. I am adamant that music is personal, which is why I strongly encourage students to have a lot of freedom in what they play, and their expression.

I teach in Taylors Lakes, though can come to you if you live nearby (or if you live near Clayton) and own a piano. I teach piano technical skills, how to practice effectively and efficiently, the required music theory, musicality and performance, and can aid your development towards an assessment or examination, or simply for leisure. For young children, I would suggest Suzuki method, a method morphed around listening, that is imperative for developing impeccable aural skills, or the traditional method if the student is older, though I’m more than happy to teach any age or level. Lessons can be 30 or 60 minutes, though 60 minutes is better.
