About Cameron
I specialise in music tuition: having completed my Composition PhD at the University of York in 2025, as well as by MA and BA in Music (graduating from both with 1st Class Distinction Honours), I'm currently working as a peripatetic music teacher in schools around the North East and North Yorkshire. My research involves writing music - so outside of tutoring, I'm working on scores for Orchestras and small ensembles across the UK (and sometimes beyond). I'm a regular performer in theatre bands and jazz combos, and co-run a professional jazz/funk/soul collective, 'Paul McArthur's Kings of Cool' too.

My teaching style is positive and methodical, to ensure that students are happy and comfortable working towards their goals, allowing them to make good progress, and to develop tools to deal with stress. My teaching is also heavily influenced by the specific needs of each individual student - I'm flexible with my methods, and my timetable, so that every student can learn in a way that works well for them. I primarily teach piano (any style, e.g. classical, jazz, pop etc), guitar/bass guitar (pop/rock), trumpet (any style), as well as composition, music theory, and analysis, and I'm very happy working with both beginners and more experienced students, from all ages and backgrounds. I have expert knowledge in GCSE and A level music coaching.

Cameron is fab! He is so calm and patient (yet fun!) And is really helpful when I'm struggling with something in a piece - he knows just the thing to suggest! He is very knowledgeable and experienced, so he can help me in any style I like. I know he has had lots of students do well in their classical exams, others don't want exams, but want more of a pop approach - I just wanted to be able to play and sing at the same time, and he has been so good!
I really feel like Cameron is there to support me and how I want to progress. I have come on so much since starting lessons with him! I would recommend Cameron to anyone!View more recommendations
