About John
Many students don't struggle because they lack ability—they struggle because they don't know where to begin.
For more than twenty years, I've helped students in schools and universities across the United States, West Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and the United Kingdom become more confident, organised and independent learners. As both a teacher and librarian, I've worked with students on everything from essays and research projects to extended academic investigations, helping them develop the skills they need to succeed long after a single assignment has been completed.
I specialise in academic writing, essay planning, research skills, study strategies and project organisation. Whether you're preparing for GCSEs, A Levels, the IB Personal Project or Extended Essay, or university coursework, I'll help you break large assignments into manageable steps, improve the quality of your writing, and build the confidence to work independently.
My lessons are practical, supportive and personalised. Rather than simply correcting work, I teach students how to think critically, organise ideas, structure strong arguments and develop effective study habits. My goal is not only to help students achieve better grades, but to give them the skills and confidence to tackle future challenges on their own.

My lessons are designed to help students move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling organised and in control.
We begin with a free consultation to understand your goals, identify what's getting in the way, and create a realistic plan for success. Large assignments become manageable when they're broken into smaller, achievable steps with clear deadlines and priorities.
Each lesson combines practical coaching with targeted skill development. Rather than teaching generic study techniques, we focus on the skills you need at your current stage of the project. That could be planning, research, note-taking, analysing sources, developing an argument, structuring an essay or refining your writing.
Alongside academic skills, I teach students how to work more effectively. Drawing on proven study strategies, we'll develop habits that improve focus, reduce procrastination, manage time more effectively, and make studying less stressful.
My goal isn't simply to help you complete one assignment; it's to help you become a more confident, independent learner who can tackle future challenges with less anxiety and greater success.
Every lesson ends with a clear action plan, so you'll always know exactly what to do before we meet again. Over time, students don't just produce better work: They develop the confidence and routines to manage demanding academic projects on their own.
