About Faye

Hi! My name is Faye, and I finished my degree in English literature and French in 2017 with a 2:1 overall. I've spent the past two years in France teaching English at a university, so have had a lot of time to perfect my French and now speak fluently. I am starting my master's degree this coming academic year.

In my last role as an English teacher at the Université de Lorraine, I taught students both specialising in an English degree, as well as students from other disciplines such as business, accounting, and European studies. I have also had plenty of private students with different goals: to improve day-to-day English for travel; school support; and test preparation. Whilst I have predominantly taught adults over the past two years, I also have experience teaching and tutoring younger years. I have had private students at primary and high school, and spent four years working as a Student Advocate for the University of Liverpool whilst completing my degree. In this role, I tutored GCSE students, mentored A-Level students, and led workshops for primary school students. My background in English literature at university, as well as my passion for reading, means I am able to confidently help students understand and respond to literary texts, as well as help them improve their writing skills. Moreover, I currently have several regular tutees in both French and English.

Spending two years in France, as well as one year in 2015-2016 teaching at a high school, means that I am now a fluent French speaker with an advanced understanding of the French language and culture. I love everything French, and any opportunity to speak the language, and I try to pass on this passion and enthusiasm for the language and culture in my lessons.

The one thing I expect from my students is dedication and effort on their part. With that in mind, and with a 'can-do' attitude, we'll get off to a great start and be able to work on improving your skills. We will identify your weak areas and your strengths, as well as your goals, and make a plan of action from there. I will plan and tailor lessons to best suit your interests, learning style, and needs, to ensure development and increased confidence. I'll find a range of resources to help consolidate learning points, and try to centre these around your interests. The more interested you are in the subject, the better you will learn and remember!

I'm always open to communication and feedback and I will look out for tweaks we can make along the way to make sure you're getting the most out of your tutoring. All in all, I think a good way to approach tutoring is a team approach.
