About Maxwell

Hi! My name is Max Lewis, I am 18 year old musician looking to teach all levels of skill both how to excel and love playing their instrument just like me! I play both Jazz and Classical music over my range of instruments, which include Saxophone, Piano, Clarinet and Guitar. I have achieved a performance diploma and I am working towards multiple grade 8s across my instruments, so I feel I have a lot of experience and skill which I could teach my pupils.

About the lesson

In my 13 years of playing musical instruments I feel I understand what is required to progress a student, with both technical exercises and exciting pieces, my pupils will both excel in their instrument and in the mean time love what and how they are playing. I have obtained my performance diploma for my Alto Saxophone where I received a distinction and have studied a range of music, from jazz legends such as Charlie Parker and new era composers such as Amy Quate. In lessons (for both saxophone and clarinet) we would talk about correct note identification, finger technique, proper breath support and control, tone and any other questions that may along the path of learning a wind instrument. For Piano, I am a jazz player at heart playing music from Chick Corea and Charles Mingus and in lessons will provide ways of approaching improvising and different approaches to chord symbol reading and chord voicing. I also play classical piano as well and I am working towards my grade 8 at the moment, so I feel more then capable to teach the proper technique and approaches to varying difficulties of pieces. If any of this seems too complicated or over baring, I want to assure you that once understood these techniques (which are actually very similar for most instruments) will improve the playing of even a brand new player. I mainly teach lessons 1 on 1, so that I can give my full attention to just one pupil, but I am open to grouped lessons if pupils require this type of teaching.
As a teacher I would listen the needs and requirements of my pupils and tailor the lessons to what I believe will improve them the most.
