About Ahsan

I'm Ahsan, a master's student in physics researching quantum information. I also work as a teaching assistant for a university calculus course, so I see every week exactly where students get stuck, and how to get them past it.

I've been teaching for 7 years, including a year at a school and 2+ years tutoring online, with students from elementary and middle school math to AP Physics and university calculus. Students and families have left 50 reviews averaging 4.9 stars, and many of my students stay with me for years as they move up through the grades.

I teach:
• Physics: AP Physics 1, 2 and C, plus high school and intro university physics
• Math: elementary and middle school math through Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus and Calculus
• Statistics: high school, AP and intro level

I also enjoy working with adult learners, whether you're returning to study, taking a college course, or need a subject for your career.

We start with what you're covering in class right now. I break each concept into clear steps, we work through examples together, and then you try similar problems while I give feedback, until you can solve them on your own. Whether you're catching up or want to get ahead of your class, lessons are built around your goals.

Lessons are online through Superprof, Zoom or Google Meet, whichever suits you, and scheduled around your time zone.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed a profound interest in physics and mathematics during my high school years. The beauty of solving complex equations and understanding how nature works fascinated me. The passion for teaching emerged naturally as I found joy in helping my class-fellows understand challenging concepts. Private tutoring became a calling when I recognized the unique impact it could have on a student's learning journey.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in teaching physics and mathematics. What excites me the most is diving into the connections between these subjects and the real world. From teaching Algebra to exploring classical mechanics or discussing the principles behind quantum mechanics or concepts like Time-Dilation, Relativity theory brings energy to lessons. While every topic has its own charm, I find that students sometimes struggle with abstract concepts like advanced algebra. However, overcoming these challenges together is immensely rewarding.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Absolutely, my Plasma Physics teacher Dr. Umer was a true inspiration. Their passion for the subject, coupled with an unwavering commitment to student success, left a lasting impression on me. They had a unique ability to make complex theories accessible, fostering a love for learning. This experience sparkled my desire to follow their teaching approach and the ambition to become a guiding force for others.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Empathy is paramount. Understanding each student's unique learning style and adapting my teaching methods accordingly creates an environment for effective learning. Patience is key when tackling challenging topics, and effective communication ensures clarity. A good tutor must also be flexible, recognizing the need for personalized approaches to cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One memorable experience involved a student struggling with understanding projectile motion. We used a hands-on experiment, launching a small projectile and analyzing its trajectory. The moment when they connected theoretical concepts to real-world application was priceless. It highlighted the power of experiential learning and cemented my belief in the effectiveness of interactive teaching methods.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One persistent challenge is breaking down the fear barrier that some students associate with complex math problems. Creating a supportive and encouraging environment is crucial. Additionally, keeping up with advancements in physics, especially in rapidly evolving fields like quantum physics, requires continuous learning to provide students with the most up-to-date and relevant information.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in unravelling the world of physics and mathematics for students. Witnessing their growth and building their confidence in these subjects is incredibly fulfilling. Beyond teaching, I am deeply passionate about promoting STEM education, aiming to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and problem solvers.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

My commitment to student success sets me apart. I believe in creating a dynamic and engaging learning experience tailored to each student's needs. Continuous self-improvement, and incorporating feedback are integral to my teaching methodology. As a Superprof, I am dedicated to fostering a love for learning and empowering my students to achieve their academic goals.
