About Cristina

Hello all,
I have 17 years experience in ESL/EFL and have a TESL Canada Certificate, a BA and MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Victoria. I can help you take your language learning to the next level! I worked at UBC English Language Institute for almost 10 years, recently as a Year 1 EAP instructor at Royal Roads and am on Call as a SUB at Camosun College ELD and UVic in the English Language Centre. I am also an instructional assistant on-call and will be teaching the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Program this Feb. 2019!
I have worked abroad in Japan and South Korea and have traveled extensively. I understand what it's like to learn and live in an other language. I have studied Japanese, German, Spanish and First Nations languages and can help you achieve your goals in English quickly and accurately!
I am just in career transition from moving back to Victoria from Vancouver, so this is a rare opportunity to have me as your PERSONAL language coach!
I can also help you with essay writing, editing, IELTS, TOEFL, exam prep, research skills and can help you become a better critical thinker!

About the lesson

I always adjust my lessons based on student needs. I use SMART goals and have a variety of diagnostics to start, no matter what age or level. I plan my lessons with the student's goals and specific needs in mind in order to achieve their desired language skills efficiently. I am a strong supporter of Project-based learning, collaborative team work and self-reflection and combine these strengths with a strong background in linguistics (grammar and mechanics!) and academic skills (research, time management, goal-setting, etc.).

If the travel time is less than 10 minutes by car, extra travel time fee will not apply. Despite my above average fee for Victoria rates, I can guarantee my experience and availability of materials will not disappoint. Group lessons are the same rate, so if you have a friend, you can split the cost!
