About Russell

I did the teaching course on another well-regarded language-teaching website, and have already logged hundreds of hours of lessons. My students are all happy with me.
I am the most-published letter to the editor writer in Canadian history, so I have a real knack for simplifying complex information. I have done stand-up comedy, public speeches, press conferences, countless interviews, sketch comedy, and acted in two award-winning short films.

I can teach you how to speak casual conversational English. If you are looking for structured, school-type lessons, I am not your guy. If you can already speak English pretty well, and are looking for a looser, casual, conversational type of learning environment, then I am your guy.
I have no formal experience teaching English before 2025 (I completed and passed the Preply Certified teaching course), but my mastery of the language makes me a natural for this work. I can help you improve normal day-to-day conversations and pronunciation. If you are looking for more casual conversational English as opposed to formal training, I am your man. If you are already a fairly fluent talker and just want to polish up on pronunciation and, you know, "sounding American", I can help with that.

About the lesson

I give you suggestions about how to listen to YouTube videos, TV shows and podcasts and notice pronunciation and inflection. I go through text with you (usually some entertainment news to keep it light), and correct your pronunciation. I point out the odd quirks and nuances of English, with special attention to casual vs formal approaches to reading and pronunciation. And I give you homework you can do, if you want :)
