About Max
We are a medically managed performance training institute for overhead throwing athletes. Our clinical education combined with our high level of playing experience allow us to use both our clinical understanding of biomechanics and kinesiology with practical playing experience.
I am glad that I have the opportunity to rehabilitate injured throwers and prevent the same injuries in athletes that plagued my collegiate career.
I started as a patient and injured college athlete. After working with Ed Martel as a patient and client I got the opportunity of during an apprenticeship under Ed. This apprenticeship was where I got my start working with both healthy and injured athletes.
Max is the Director of Throwing at the Overhead Athletic Institute. He is currently completing his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Oakland University in Michigan. After pitching collegiately for the Concordia University Ann Arbor varsity baseball team for two seasons he transferred to Oakland University where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a concentration on Exercise Science. Shortly after Max's collegiate baseball career ended he began a three year apprenticeship under Ed Martel, the founder of the Overhead Athletic Institute, orthopedic physical therapist, and former professional pitcher. Max is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Max also has a certification in Applied Functional Science (CAFS) through the Gray Institute and is a certified Human Movement Specialist (HMS) through the Brookbush Institute. Max is an educational assistant for the Overhead Athletic Institute serving as a teaching assistant and instructor for the Martel Method continuing education course. Max is a throwing athlete rehabilitation consultant for HealthQuest Physical Therapy and has co-authored the book Rehab to Throw Like a Pro: The Clinician's Guide.
