About Joseph
I graduated among the top of my class in undergrad, and never scored lower than an A on a test in any of the classes that I provide tutoring in. I also achieved a top score (91st percentile) on the MCAT. My best section on the MCAT was biology/biochemistry, in which I scored in the 96th percentile. I am exceptionally knowledgeable in my areas of expertise, and that allows me to provide students with a level of detail that other tutors might not be able to. I mainly tutor in Chemistry and Biology, but am open to tutoring in other subjects as well.
My favorite part about tutoring is having the opportunity to help students find the sense of wonder and fulfillment that I had when I was in college. Other parts about tutoring that I enjoy are helping people come closer to achieving their goals and helping them build confidence in their abilities to do so.
I started out tutoring my fellow classmates in the classes that we shared and went from there. Since 2020, I have been based in Columbia, Missouri, where I teach students in person and online.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and 3 years of experience tutoring my fellow classmates. I have also taken the MCAT and have experience helping others prepare for it.

I like to assess where the student is currently at with their knowledge of the material that they are requesting help with. From there, I like to allow the student to set the pace at which we move forward and tailor my tuition to the style that best suits them.
To date, I have only worked with college students, but am interested in taking on high school students as well.
A lot of people have degrees in certain areas, but haven't really maintained their knowledge or never really had a great understanding of the material to begin with. I would recommend ensuring that the prospective tutor's knowledge is up to par, and then making sure that they have a personality and communication style that is compatible with yours.
I was teaching Infrared Spectroscopy to one of my tutees, and it was very difficult for her to understand at first. However, after 45 minutes of explanation and practice problems, it finally clicked and she got the correct answer and said, "Wow! That was so fun. Let's do another problem!" This was really satisfying because that is exactly the kind of moment that makes me want to keep tutoring.

Joseph is very knowledgeable and has been able to help me quite a bit in organic chemistry. I even found myself having fun sometimes, which is something I did not really expect from organic. He has been very flexible regarding his pricing and availability, and works hard to anticipate my needs as a student. He even condensed everything from organic I down into a single document so that I could have it to easily reference in organic 2. I definitely recommend hiring him as your tutor!
