About Ricaldo
I got started teaching while i was in my 2nd undergraduate year at university. I did well in the chemistry exams so the faculty paid me to tutor first year students in chemistry in a program called the Peer Lead team Learning (PLTL) program. I realized i was good at it and continued to do my own private tutoring. I was also a tutor in the department of chemistry at the University of the West Indies, Mona (UWI) as well as an adjunct lecturer in chemistry.
I have a first class honours degree in Special Chemistry. I am now pursing my PhD in Natural Products chemistry as well as bio organic chemistry.

When working with a new student i would typically ask them about their intended career paths and objectives from these sessions. This can help to gauge how i deliver the material and improves the chances of the student comprehending what was taught. For the first class i usually offer a free 1 hour session and allow the student to choose if they would like me to continue being their tutor.
I have worked with students at the primary (elementary) level to students in their final year at univeristy. I have worked with students that are brilliant and very fast as well as students that are a bit slower and a bit disinterested in science. Thus i find effective ways to try and reach those students to ensure that i delivery the material efficiently.
I would advise a student that if they are looking for a tutor in this or any other area, they should open their minds, remove any mindblocks they have for the subject and just prepare to learn the material from scratch. They have to trust that the tutor is skilled enough to deliver the material, in a different way from their usual teachers, in an effort to improve the chances of the student grasping the concept. The student has to tell themselves that, this person can teach me something and only then will they truly begin to learn, as the student has to be willing.
I recently remember when my club ACS, for which i am the president, had a chemsitry festival online for students all over the world. This was done during the pandemic and we conducted fun and safe experiments that could be done from home and we had the students participate. It was alot of fun to say the least.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Questions the can be solved from a simple google search as well as yes or no questions. We live in a technological age but as young people we ironically dont utilize the internet to the best of our abilities. One of the first things one should do when faced with a question that they dont know the answer for is to search online for possible solutions and once that is done the student will be a bit more informed about the concept, and that is when they should approach the tutor. That way they will know exactly what they dont understand and what parts they do understand.
