About Mary Alice

I love to learn and I love to help others learn. I hold BS degrees in biology and agriculture, a BA in chemistry, minors in general science and agriculture (soils and vet science), two year degrees in horticulture and art, am certified in massage therapy and am TESOL certified. I also hold a class A wastewater treatment plant operator license in Missouri, which is a field I love. I have taught floriculture, biology, applied microbiology, math, environmental science, water and wastewater treatment, industrial hygiene, applied chemistry and physiology at the college level, some at UCM as a grad student and most as a full time college teacher at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. With a very diverse background in knowledge, education and training of all age groups, I love to teach and help others to learn and succeed by sharing my knowledge and coaching. I am patient and supportive. I am also always ready to learn more, and have been told many times that I have the ability to make something that appears hard seem easier. My student reviews are a source of great fulfillment for me. I like people, love helping kids, and have three of my own who excelled in school, each being homeschooled at various times. I am also currently an independent trainer of wastewater treatment plant operators (after working as a water specialist with the state Department of Natural Resources) and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for seven years, taught college full time for ten, and was a christian education director for three teaching children as young as two. I am a substitute teacher with two school districts teaching K-12. I am caring and patient and love to help. Teaching is definitely my passion!

I am a substitute teacher in K-12 and have over 15 years of experience teaching adults, both at the college level and in the workforce. I love helping others achieve their goals and enjoy science.

BS biology, BA chemistry, BS agriculture, minors in general science and soil/vet science, 2 year horticulture tech degree, K-12 substitute teaching certification, 15+ years teaching adults.

About the lesson

I always try to see where students are coming from, who they are, what they hope to achieve by working with me, and their likes and dislikes in learning styles if possible. Everyone is an individual, and knowing these aspects upfront allows me to help them in a comfortable manner to the greatest degree possible.
