About Samantha

I recently finished veterinary school at the University of Sydney. I am interested in pursuing surgery or neurology as a specialty. I have tutored privately and with companies and universities since 2010. Most of my tutoring has been in Biology, including Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry (College, AP, Honors, SAT Subject Tests, ACT Science). I have made my own Powerpoints that cover almost every Biology and Chemistry topic and that my students will have access to. I was fully vaccinated in early April and am available for online or masked, socially distanced in-home sessions. I love connecting with students of all ages from any background and helping them reach their full potential.

I find working one-on-one with students to be very fulfilling. It is so important to me to provide individualized service to every student, as each student has their own learning style, goals, interests, and personality; that is what makes tutoring so engaging to me. I strive to make sessions as efficient and productive as possible and to produce improvement in as few sessions as possible.

I started tutoring in college at Washington University in St. Louis. After graduating, I continued tutoring with Elite Educational Institute in Torrance until 2017, when I moved to Sydney for veterinary school. There, I tutored independently and for a residential college.

I majored in Environmental Studies with a minor in biology, while also taking several chemistry courses to fulfill entry requirements for veterinary school.

College-level: General Biology, General Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology

High school: AP/ honors/ regular Biology, AP/ honors/ regular Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Psychology, Biology and Chemistry SAT Subject Tests, ACT Science, Algebra.

About the lesson

Before the first session, I like to discuss goals over the phone. Where is the student currently at, and where do they want to be? Is there a specific area or concept that is particularly difficult for them? If I am able to view a syllabus, their homework/ study material, and/or past tests/ assignments ahead of time, that would be ideal.

I have tutored students from middle school up to college. I have worked with students from many different backgrounds and with different goals. While I have helped several students achieve 5s on Biology and Chemistry AP exams, I am just as proud to have helped those struggling with any level of science. I attempt to make my notes as engaging and accessible as possible.

Find someone who is genuinely excited about teaching. I truly believe it is obvious when a tutor has put the time and energy in being the best teacher they can be.

Online: $40-60/ hr depending on subject

In-home: $60-80/hr in-home (masked and socially distanced if not vaccinated) for students in Torrance, Palos Verdes, Lomita, Redondo Beach, and San Pedro. I am fully vaccinated.
