About Noelle

I have a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Utah. I am currently getting my Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Washington. In high school, I took AP biology and AP chemistry so I have a strong understanding of what these courses require to be successful. I helped my younger sister through her classes in high school and I would love to help more students like her. I can help with exam prep, homework assignments, and everything in between for biology and chemistry related courses.

I love science and want to share that passion with students who may be struggling with understanding these challenging topics for the first time.

I got started by helping my younger sister through her classes since elemantary school.

I was a teaching assistant for 2 years in college where my job was to clarify concepts learned in lectures and help with lab/homework assignments. In addition, I tutored my younger sister and some of her friends in high school chemistry, biology, and math. Currently I am a graduate teaching assistant in pharmacology.

About the lesson

I will typically schedule a zoom meeting (~30 mins) to talk about goals, expectations, and areas where help is needed to decide if we are a good fit. Next, I will ask for materials from the class where the student is struggling to help identify conceptual gaps. Finally, I will work through example problems with the student until they feel confident doing it on their own.

I usually work with high school students, and have experience working with college stdents as well.

Biology and Chemistry are broad subjects with many different concepts. Before looking for a tutor, make sure that you know what areas/concepts you need the most help with so you can be sure that you and your tutor are a good fit.

I helped a student pass a math test she had previously failed 3 times. It was very gratifying to see her finally move on from being stuck.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It is helpful to think about why you are struggling because the teacher can't help you if they don't know what the problem is. For example, if you are struggling on exams, is it because you are anxious? If you are struggling on homework, is it because you don't have enough time? Or is it because you genuinely don't understand the material? Identifying where the problem lies is the first step in finding a solution.

Details

I charge $30 per hour for tutoring services plus a $5 travel fee if the session is in person outside of the downtown Seattle area.

I am open to zoom sessions and price negotiations.
