About Nathaniel
I am a full-time writer. I have a published short story, a self-published novella, and two online courses on Udemy where I teach students about the short story.
Writing is difficult, and I find that it can be very difficult to pursue full-time. As with anything, turning something you enjoy into a job is dangerous and can taint the experience. Although I have experienced my share of difficult times and rough patches, I wouldn't trade this for anything.
Accidently. I really liked the idea of being that crazy writer locked in his room for days on end, creating works of art, but it turns out I really enjoy talking to people and helping them perfect their own work. No art, whether it be writing, painting, music, whatever, is created in a vacuum. I found the best way to teach myself to write is by teaching other people.
I've been a full-time writer for the past year but writing for the past seven. I have a few writing courses online, and I've been published in an English short story anthology.

I like to start a discussion before any 'teaching' is done. What kind of stories do you read? What kind of stories do you find yourself most drawn to? Have you already started writing? What are you looking for in a teacher? Someone to teach you the ins-and-outs of punctuation, or someone who can help draw out your writer's voice? Once we've established this, we can work towards writing and perfecting your short story.
All ages. The only real common ground my students have is their desire to write.
Start reading. It's impossible to become a writer without reading.
I spent an hour last night watching rats dig little burrows on the riverbank near me, which was pretty exciting.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What they're looking to get out of a tutor. If you are looking for someone to teach you how to proofread, that isn't something I'd be able to teach. Not all writers are good editors, and vice versa.
If you're looking for guidance on how to find your voice, and how to clarify your stories, unearthing structure and content from unnecessary fluff, I can teach that.

Details
My standard rate on my online course is $40 for an hour. This is negotiable with every student. For the first lesson, since I prefer a bit of discussion about your writing habits, I charge $30 for the hour.
