About Grace
Hey! My name is Grace, and I want to be your tutor.
No matter where you're at academically, what your grade is, what circumstances you're dealing with, you can grow. I do not advocate for straight memorization or doing anything "because you have to." My favorite part of tutoring is helping people see the difference between how to do something and why you're doing it. There is always more to the story than "that's just how you get the answer."
Some subjects are hard, and that varies by person-- it's okay to not be acing every single exam (or semester, or class). But if you stop thinking of education as linear and start thinking of it as an opportunity, you will see that the grade is a reflection of performance, but not understanding; it's the depth of your knowledge and your ability to apply it that's most important, not what letter it produces. I believe in acquiring knowledge, not grades. You can get A's by doing exactly what you're told. But you truly learn when you understand the concepts behind those tasks. If you want a tutor who can take you from failing to straight A's, I'm not for you. But if you want a tutor who will help you improve by understanding, we will get along!
I've just finished high school and my AA in Anthropology, which I completed entirely dual-credit. In that time, I've won nearly 2 dozen local, regional, state, and national awards, from scholarships to championships. I've got writing awards, academic varsity letters, the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence, and a National Merit Scholarship-- awarded to 1% of students-- earning me a 4 year full-ride to the University of Idaho. My first meeting with a student is for building a plan, talking about expectations, establishing goals, and figuring out how to get there. I do not work with the student on material for this session.
I do not tutor with parents on video or call; it's important that I create a plan realistic for your student's expectations of themselves. They need to be able to communicate their concerns independently.
Please also note that I do not tutor for more than 2 hours at a time. Students need time to process what they're practicing, and I need time to prepare it! In my experience, giving yourself breaks is much better for long-term undertanding.

Details
Because I need more preparation for longer sessions, I charge in increments of half hours. For sessions 60 minutes or shorter (including the first meeting), I charge $20. Sessions between 60 and 90 minutes cost $35, and sessions between 90 and 120 minutes will cost $50. The time I spend with a student is rounded to the nearest half hour and charged accordingly.
