About Jason
I have been teaching visual art to young people for over twenty years. I have helped hundreds of middle school students gain addmissions to specialized art high schools. I have also helped high shcool students prepare for art college admissions. I am very passionate about my work and I can help new students reach their artistic goals.
I love making art with young people. My passion is to create projects that are tailored to a student's interests while also meeting the requirements of art institutions. Even if a student is not planning on attending art school, I can help them make art they love. There’s nothing more joyful than watching a student discover their passion and make work that inspires others.
I love teaching art and I have been working as a public- school teacher in Brooklyn for twenty years. I have worked with students of all different ages and abilities. I have also helped ELL students and Special Needs meet the same requirements as their general education peers. I meet my students wherever they are at, and help them grow as artists!
I have been working as a public-school art teacher for 20 years. I have completed reputable art degrees such as a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from Hunter College. My art education work has been the title feature of the NAEA (National Art Education Association) Magazine. In addition to my work as an educator, I have exhibited my own work in galleries around New York City and been reviewed by The Brooklyn Rail and Hyperallergic.

I believe every student can become a better artist regardless of previous experince or skill level. My intention when working with a new student is to assess thier abilities and guide them in attaining thier artistic goals. I have a particular skill in helping middle school students gain admissions into specialized art high schools. Over the years I have helped hundres of young artists create a 5-10 piece portfolio and prepare for the written and oral portion of the high school auditions. I have also help high school students with the rigorous task of preparing for college admissions. In addition to prepatory tutoring, I can help young people of any age explore the joy of art!
I have worked with 4th to 12th grade students. I have a great deal of experience helping middle school students prepare portfolios for specialized art high schools. I have also worked with high school students and helped them prepare a portfolio for college.
I would advise them to look at the teacher's portfolio of student work. Does that teacher's student work align with the expectorations of the institution they are applying to? For example, NYC art high schools require several works from observation; such as a self-portrait, a still-life and a perspective drawing, among other things. Does that teacher have student work that demonstrates those expectations? As you can see on my website, jasonrondinelli.com, my students meet the high school expectations.
I recently attended the Brooklyn Borough Arts Festival at the Brooklyn Children's Museum. I saw several of my student at the opening and we celebrated their ability to exhibit with other inspiring artists from around Brooklyn.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are the requirements for applying to art high school or college? Where does my current work meet those standards and what is lacking that the tutor could help fulfill? These are some questions I could help answer during an intake meeting.
