About Bree
I teach in-studio inside a creative space in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte. I have 8 years of intensive teaching practice and advanced training in color theory, figurative realism, tactile therapy and art as social justice tools.
I love teaching and love accomodating my students at every level, inspiring them to make the work they are interested in making. My job is to build an impressive range of tools for the students to use as they wish to make their work with conviction, confidence and ease. I have had some students weekly for years now with no intention of ever stopping, it's a blessing to be such an integral part of their lives and creative expressions.
I have a fine arts degree in painting and currently teach and develop curriculum for the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture, the Mint Museum, the Children's Home Society, the Arts Empowerment Project, the Mecklenburg County Health Department and many other major health and arts institutions on the East Coast.
I also have extensive training through the Arts and Science Council, EmcArts, the Center for Photography and Justice at Duke University and more.

We always begin with 5 intensive color theory and color psychology classes, that segue into intuitive mark-making, shadow and light, dimensional rendering and more. Then, we begin a project together that fits the student's interests once they are confident with using the elements of art as tools.

When I started taking art classes at age 31, I felt kind of silly. I loved art and I loved making art, but I wanted to take my painting specifically to the next level. Bree came highly recommended and I understand why-- she really took time to get to know me as a person, and she tailored her lessons to both grow my talent and help me reach certain goals I'd set for myself. It's been fun to see the things I've learned in my classes with Bree reflected in my personal art at home and even in my sketchbooks.
