About Michele
I am a recently graduated college student from Whittier College Class of 2020. Majored in Studio Art and minored in Art History. I have had plently of experience studying and creating Art as well as tutoring. I worked as an AVID Tutor for about a year for high school students where I helped tutor students with all of their subjects.
Along with the passion I have for Art and Art History, I love to teach the subject to other students/individuals. I love being able to teach others what I have learned and I enjoy being there to help others with their studies. Helping students grow and learn is a huge passion of mine because I was in their position once too as a student. I feel it is important to offer help and support to students as much as possible so they can grow and feel confident in themselves and their work.
I was introduced to AVID Tutoring by my mother who works at the Montebello Unified School District. She recommeneded that I look into it as teaching has always been something that I have been interested in. Teaching is something that I want to do as a profession in the near future. As a recently graduated college student, I now am moving forward in the direction of obtaining the credentials I need in order to become a teacher. Since I started tutoring it has become apparent to me that this is something I very much want to pursue.
For about a year I worked as an AVID Tutor at my high school, Bell Gardens High School. There I learned the best way to work and interact with students by training and seeing how the former tutors worked with the students. As an AVID Tutor, I helped the students with a range of subjects from English, Science, Math, History, etc.
For 4 years I worked as a stage technician at Whittier College where I also completed training and worked with other students. Over the years of working as a stage tech at the Ruth B. Shannon Center, I became the leader of the group and I was given the role as a mentor and guide to the new coming students to help them learn the ways of the theater and their work roles.

First, I like to get to know a little bit about my student. I feel that is essential before working with them so I can gain some knowledge about who they are and what they like. I want my student to feel as comfortable as possible with me so they can work to the best of their ability and not feel otherwise. Creating a space where the student feels comfortable and not intimidated or anxious to work is important and I feel it will help them become the best student they can be.
As an AVID Tutor I have worked with high school students from grades 9th-11th. As a stage technician, I worked with college students, primarily freshman and sophomores.
Look for someone who wants to get to know you as a student. That is most essential, as you want to get to know the individual you will be working with. This will help you manage the best ways to work alongside them. Also look for someone who has had plenty of experience working with a range of students and subjects, that shows that they are more flexible and can take on more than the average.
While working as an AVID Tutor, there was one student that I would work with every other day. He was not the most dedicated student and made it very clear that school was something he was not interested in. He also made it clear to me that he did not have the motivation or the help. As his tutor, I wanted to help him and get him on the right path, as i did. I got to know him as a student and I gave him the time and attention that he needed in order to get back on his feet. We worked together until the end of the school year and it was very clear that he had changed as a student and found the help he needed in order to better his school work. That is something that I am very proud of and I wish to see happen with many other students who are in need of the help and support.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is there any additional help I can get with my studies?
Are there people I can talk to about my needs and the difficulties I am facing?
Are there others that are facing the same issues as me or seeking the same help I am?

As of now, I do not have a specific pricing system for my lessons. I think that is something I would want to discuss with whomever I am working with. Whatever works for the best of us is what I prefer.
