About Genie
My experience begins as a professional artist of 40+ years. I have taught children In-studio and at Turtle River Montessori. I have taught adults again In-studio and at Stetson University.
My studies include Fine Art and Art & Design at Hillsdale College and Atlanta School of Design and I’ve taken instructions under Ted Vasser (abstract painter) and sculpture and clay with Richard Schneider.
Before and throughout my teaching process I have studied the best learning methods for different age groups and levels of experience. I have designed programs and literature to assist the student in between classes.
Painting, Sculpture, Drawing are the courses I provide for In-Studio training. I prefer to have lesson time to be two hours. This allows for time to present information and give examples, followed by guidance through the newly presented skills.
I enjoy making art fun and inspiring others. My goal is to offer information and techniques that relate to the students desired direction, while working with classical methods to support their ability to grow.
I am passionate about inspiring people to see art through the “artists eyes.”
At the request of friends and family I learned to enjoy sharing what I learned and am passionate about.
My studies have been in Fine Art and Art & Design. I have taught children of all ages and adults. I most enjoy teaching In-Studio but have taught children at Turtle River Montessori and adults at Stetson University.
I have been teaching since 1998 and have developed lesson plans for various levels of skill.

Typically I like to begin our new relationship with a discussion about goals, desires, and commitment. Then I like to dive in. I like to get to know the student and I hope to instill confidence by sharing my background and my work and give a brief presentation of what can be done based on an initial assessment.
Because each artist has a different personality and different skills it’s important to learn what their needs are and create a path just for them.
The students I have worked with cover a broad range of skill levels and ages.
Some students want to achieve skills at a Fine Arts level, others want to hone and/or improve their skills, others want to be comfortable with being creative.
I teach to the needs and aspirations of the student.
Make contact with the teacher and discuss your goals and desires. Ask yourself is this someone that I would enjoy spending time with and can I learn from this person.

As an artist I participate in many local events. One event that I have been a part of for the past four years is Continuum.
This is a local pop-up exhibit that also gives back to the community and is fiercely supportive of local artists and young artists.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should carefully consider their goals and what they want to get from this experience. Be sure to be honest about skills and amount of time to invest. Sadly, art can be expensive so being able to budget the costs is important. Ask for product lists and actual $ projections. Many artist /teachers have purchasing programs for students. Ask for what is available. I offer an up-front supply package for each of my courses. Please inquire.

$45/hour is my base price. This is a great place to start for beginners
$75/2 hour session. Recommended for those committed to growth and/or wanting to fast track the learning process.
