About Syd

Want to learn how to draw for animation? Are you putting together a portfolio for college?

I have years of experience and studied under Don Bluth himself. I can tutor you in drawing for animation, and provides links and resources outside my lessons to give you an extra edge.

I believe that animation is a mindset that anyone can learn, not just something you're born with.

I started tutoring my friends in community college and even helped my friends get into top art colleges.

I graduated from Don Bluth University, a trade program where I studied animation directly under Don Bluth himself.

I've worked on independent stop motion, interned at various smaller studios and production houses, and am currently focusing on creating my own independent animated series and going a different route that the traditional route of working for a major studio.

About the lesson

I love to hear from the student what their animation goals are, so I can help them improve their drawings to achieve them.

Do you want to be an animator? Then I'd focus on skills that help you create drawings that can easily move, and explain how the right way of looking at animation and drawing can drastically improve your art.

Do you have a story you want to animate or draw as a comic? I can help you get better at anatomy and perspective to achieve your goals.

Do you want to go to an animation college? I can look at your art and work with you to improve your portfolio pieces to wow any judge.

Do you want to learn parts of the art form that are lost like cel painting? Great, because I'm one of the few people in the world that can teach you how to do it using modern industrial quality materials you can't get an at art store.

Do you want materials and resources, or perhaps a college portfolio review? I can look at your work and swiftly determine a plan of action for you to take on your own that is personalized and easy to follow, as well as recommend outside resources.

Students that are passionate about animation and comics and want to soak up knowledge.

Just come in open minded, and trust the process of growing as an artist, which requires integrating new information and shedding habits that hold you back. I can show you the path, but work is important. It helps to have something you want to create, and I can use what you're passionate about to teach animation.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do I trust the process and the teacher, or am I in a rush to improve, having doubts, need a pep talk?

Does what I need require a lesson or can I email a single question to the teacher?

Am I kind to myself when I'm not where I want to be?

Am I using the materials correctly and making sure my wrist isn't in pain?

Have I addressed wrist pain and Pencil Posture with my teacher?

Generally, I charge 40$ an hour, and you would schedule with me on zoom, and can pay me over Venmo, CashApp, or Zelle.

You can email me up to 4 questions every week for free outside of lessons and I'll do my best to answer them.
