About Andrew

My goal is to not only teach the student how to play and perform on their instrument, but to help them develop a sense of passion for playing as well as slowly find their own drumming voice.

I love sharing knowledge and watching students get excited and passionate about playing. It's all about inspiring the next generation of drummers.

At 14 years old, I began studying under private instructors, Scott Foley and the late great, Al Miller.

At 22 years old, I completed studies at the world renowned Drummers Collective in Manhattan in 2002, studying under masters such as Michael Lauren, Frank Katz, Fred Klatz, Memo Acevedo, Bob Quaranta, Mike Pope, and the late Kim Plainfield just to name a few. I have also intensively studied and performed with percussionary geniuses and pioneers, Billy Martin and Cyro Baptista.

Overall, I've been playing for twenty six years now and teaching for almost twenty.

About the lesson

The first thing I do is ask what inspired the student to take up the drums. From there, I assess where the student is at on the instrument. Are they a beginner? Do they have any prior experience playing an instrument? Asking them what music they listen to and what they are looking to get out of lessons is equally important. Trying to get the student passionate about playing is always the goal.

I've worked with students of all ages, levels, and with several disabilities. Students often find the lessons to be quite cathartic.

Do your research. Make sure you ask a potential instructor about their background and experience. See if they know how to read and write music. Ask what styles they are comfortable playing and teaching. More importantly, don't be afraid to ask for examples of their playing or work. Many folks can talk the talk, but you want to be sure your instructor can walk the walk.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
To be honest, there aren't really any wrong or stupid questions. Students should ask whatever questions they may have; it's the instructors that should be thinking things through before teaching our students.

Details

Lessons are $30 for a half hour session and $60 for an hour. Students can pay per lesson or monthly (which is preferred).
