About Wade

Hello!

My name is Wade, I'm a classically trained percussionist and am currently finishing my degree in music! I've performed and recorded with a Grammy award winning song writer and have played in many different situations and settings. (weddings, funerals, festivals, churches, bars, ect..) I have had a 100% success rate with my students getting into middle school percussion classes.

Music is a language that speaks to everyone and it is a huge gift to be able to teach up and coming musicians. It is one of my favorite things seeing something "click" with one of my students!

My teaching carreer began through my friends asking me to teach their kids drums, afterwards I began teaching private lessons from home and through a couple of local teaching schools in the area. Teaching is one of my favorite parts about the drums. Passing on a traditional language that is hundreds of years old and intertwined with our history is a gift in itself.

I am currently finishing my degree in Jazz Studies and will work towards a Masters degree in Jazz Studies afterwards. I have been playing drums for over 15 years and have studied with world class drummers.

I teach at local schools in the Austin area.

I have performed and recorded with a Grammy award winning artist and have worked professionally in the industry for 5 years.

About the lesson

I always get to know my students and what their goals are with drums. If they are young or a beginner I also talk with their parents as well and we discuss a game plan.

Each student is different and at a different level in their playing. Every lesson is custom tailored for said student.

For Beginners:

-We go over technique and how to properly hold a drumstick.

-We learn basic music literature.

-We work on drum set coordination.

-By the end of the first lesson the student will be playing their first beat behind the drumset.

For other levels:

-We will go over concepts such as coordination, snare drum etudes, linear patterns, transcriptions, and ways to have more efficent practices.

I have had students from the age of 5 to 80. There is no age limit when learning the drums! I have had a students with autism that was an incredibly smart and gifted young man, I have tought a woman who was in her early 80's and decided to pick up the drums again. (she hadn't played since highschool.) Each student is different and I focus on what they want out of the playing experience. Whether it be learning songs, new styles, or just a coach to help trouble shoot and answer questions.

My advice would be to listen to your teacher and ask as many questions as possible! The best students are the inquisitive ones that pay attention to the knowledge being given to them.

I have been teaching private lessons for the past year in a school studio and it has been an awesome privilege to get to work with students from all sorts of different backgrounds.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Any question that a student or parent has for me will gladly be answered, whether it is how to practice drums without a drumset at home, what to practice, what sticks to get, what books to get, or anything that comes to mind. There is no "thinking through". I'm here to help you achieve your goals, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Ask away!
