About Victoria

As an experienced and patient tutor, I am excited to help your student fall in love with reading and writing, and craft successful essays! I have helped students of all ages improve grades in English, and I specialize in planning and editing college admission essays. I leverage my background as a former high school AP English scholar and college degree in the humanities from the University of Chicago to help find meaning in complex texts and eloquently communicate their ideas. I also worked in College Admissions at the University of Chicago, and have helped students to organize their thoughts and tell their story in a strategic and compelling way. I enjoy helping students gain confidence to face challenging tasks head on! I will never forget the wonderful teachers who helped me to have my own 'Aha!' moment when I realized that I could set high goals and achieve them. Those moments instilled a lifelong love of learning and it brings me so much joy to serve a similar role in a student's journey whenever I can. I like to start by helping students identify the root causes of their challenges and develop skills to overcome them. Most importantly, I focus on building students confidence so that they can enjoy the success of challenging themselves and reaching their full potential.

I draw on my extensive training in academic and professional writing to support students to imrpove performance in English. I graduated from the University of Chicago on the Dean's List with a degree in Political Science and Philosophy. In high school, I was an an AP English Scholar, earning 5s on all AP English exams and graduating with a 4.21 GPA. I was inducted into the English, Latin, Social Studies, and Science Honors Societies.

Additionally, I have experience working in College Admissions at the University of Chicago as a Senior Interviewer. In this role, I interviewed prospective students, wrote assessments for inclusion in their admissions package, and reviewed their college essays. I've drawn on this experinece to coach students on their successful college application essays.

Lastly, I can support students and adults to develop CVs or Resumes. I worked in the University of Chicago Career Advancement office as a peer advisor, where I helped to write and edit resumes and cover letters. This has helped me to secure highly comptetive jobs. I have worked in Investment Banking at Bank of America and at a strategy consulting firm.
