About Lorraine

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University Fullerton with a major in Child and Adolescent Development. I have been helping my peers edit their various writings for over 3 years both in my college career and at my current workplace. I have helped numerous students get into graduate school or honors programs by assisting them in creating a writing piece that stands out. I consider my writing skills to be exceptional because I am able to bring out passion through writing. I love writing and the written language and want to pass on that passion to other students. Writing is one of the most difficult subjects to master; therefore I want to help students gain a love for writing and properly use it to express their thoughts.

I first started teaching in my current place of employment seven years ago. I started out as a teacher's assistant, aiding students in completing and grading their homework in a way that reflects outstanding effort. I was later promoted to a tutor teaching various subjects like elementary math, writing, phonics, and other English subjects. Then I was moved to a teaching position in which over the course of four years I taught kindergarten through fifth grade in subjects such as writing, math and English, and Common Core Prep courses.

I completed English Honors and AP Literature courses in high school. I worked as a teacher's assistant for my college professor for two years, mentoring and tutoring students throughout the college course and helping edit/grade their research papers. I have worked with fellow peers one-to-one with editing their essays and other written assignments. I have been involved in research study groups and was selected to present our data findings at prestigious conventions such as the Western Psychological Association Convetion. At my current place of employment I created writing curricula for various grade levels that has received positive feedback from students as well as parents.

When working with a new student, I aim to get to know them personally. Understanding students on a personal level allows me to better attend to their specific needs. I take the time to listen to them, gaining better insight into how to work with them and the best way to help them achieve their own goals. When I work with a student, I let them know that we are a team.

I have worked with a variety of students ranging from kindergarten to college level with all different types of learning styles. I have had experience working with English Language Learner students and students with learning disabilities. Being an assistant director, I am constantly working with students of all grade levels. In terms of college level, I have mentored students in college courses and have edited their essays.

Writing and English subjects are the most important subjects to learn as they are used throughout your whole life. Hire someone that has the passion for helping you. Any smart person can be a teacher in writing and English subjects. They can teach you how to write well but not how to create a piece of writing that shows your unique talents. The passionate person will help you achieve more that just a good grade. They will find your inner voice and passions and help you bring them to life in writing.

I was given the opportunity to help my friend's niece edit her application essay for pharmaceutical graduate school. The young woman expressed to me that she had trouble expressing herself through the writing and was unsure what she wanted to focus on in the essay. Over the course of a couple of days I got know more about her and discovered her passion about the pharmaceutical field. I was able to help her reveal her true passion and fire for helping others through her writing. As a result she immediately received an interview from the admissions department and I later found out was accepted into the prestigious university that will help her achieve that goal.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before talking to a teacher about your needs, first think about what you want to achieve. Are you just trying to get by and pass a course? Or are you trying to accomplish something more like influencing others to believe a certain thing or inspiring others to enjoy life? Think about what your goals are so that the teacher is on the same page as you and can share in your goal.

I understand that everyone is on a different path in life. While some can afford the luxury of having private tutoring services, I understand that others may not have that resource or the means to attain that service. My work ethic is not money-driven but rather "helping others driven." I have no set pricing and will work with you to find a price that is fair to both your needs and mine.
