About Jamie
Writing has always been one of my passions. I believe it's very personal, and as such it's a delicate subject to teach. My goal in tutoring creative writing isn't to mold young students into fitting anyone else's ideal; rather, I aim to foster their talent, and help them find their own voice.
I'm also an avid reader and I encourage anyone looking to improve their writing capabilities to explore the work of other authors. It's an enlightening experience when you connect with a book, and you emerge with a new perspective.
I love when students are passionate and proud of their own work! It's very rewarding to see someone grow confident in their unique voice or style. Everyone's got something to say, whether or not they realize it. Seeing students discover this about themselves is just amazing.
I've been writing independently all my life, and I attended the middle school Mark Twain School for the Gifted and Talented, where I studied Creative Writing for three years as my "major". This summer, I spent 8 weeks tutoring grade school children in creative writing.

My process always begins with a complementary consultation with the student(s), where we can get to know one another. I approach it as sort of an ice breaker, as well as an informal assessment. Figuring out the student's strengths and weaknesses is the end goal of this session; that way, I'm more equipped to create a lesson plan designed specifically for them.

Isabel is a true professional and made learning Creative Writing fun. She checked in with the students often to make sure they were understanding the material and getting what they want out of the class. She incorporated fun videos with her lesson plans.
Prepare very well
Isabel was extremely professional and prepared during every session. Her lessons were well planned and my son looked forward to her tutoring session each week. Her lessons were challenging for him, but he did not mind because he had a lot of fun learning.

Details
Lessons are typically 50 minutes in length, and can be 1-2 times per week as needed. For one student, the rate is $25 per individual session, but if you purchase one month's worth of lessons the price drops to 80 for the month. Group sessions are encouraged, so there is also a group discount! Pricing is dependant on the number of students. Before we begin, I'll conduct a complementary consultation with the student(s) to discuss objectives and goals. This will be a maximum 30 minutes. Parents are welcome!
