About Sydney

My name is Sydney Johnson. I recently graduated high school and I am looking to earn some money while I start college! I am offering my tutoring services to kids in grades K-12.

I have a long history of working with younger kids and peers to better their understanding in the classroom. Throughout my education, I spent much of my free time helping others finish their homework/study for tests.

My services are unique because I provide more than the standard homework help and test prep.

I am also offering:

-Encouragement and motivation

-To help provide outside materials that may increase the student’s understanding of their subject/section

-I can expose the student to healthy study habits (finding credible sources, time management skills, goal setting)

-Text reminders for upcoming due dates/tests

-And more!

Electives I took throughout high school: creative writing, band, choir, art, teacher’s aid, Spanish, personal finance, Success101, college speech, and drama.

I love helping others in their education. One of my favorite activities as a tutor is to get to know you/your kid's learning style and getting creative in how I help you learn.

I've been helping people learn new things since I, a 4-year old at the time, was found helping a 3-year old read at the public library.
I suppose I could say that I started taking tutoring more seriously around the 5th grade when I started my first club: The Poetry Club! I organized club meet times/locations, taught new members how to write, exposed the group to various forms of poetry, and gave constructive criticism along with creative suggestions to those who asked.

In middle school, I showed my classmates different ways to fold and cut paper to make our notes more visually appealing. I explained how using different colors stimulated their brains in a way just pencil wouldn't.

In high school I discovered the best study device: music! During a particularly challenging section, I would look for a song about it to make the information stick. If I couldn't find a song, I'd write my own lyrics and make an educational parody instead. Many of my peers and friends loved this trick for memarisation.

I do not possess any certification to teach or in any of my subjects. What I do have is extensive experience in helping other students academically. I can explain one topic in a variety of ways and know plenty of tips and tricks to keep any student on track and motivated to learn.

About the lesson

I like to have a session with the student dedicated to getting to know them/their learning style, setting goals, and finding out what exactly they need from me. This first session is free of charge so you can get to meet me before putting your money and child's potential growth in my hands.

I have worked with students K-12, from many different backgrounds. I've worked with people with all learning styles, personalities, and attitudes toward learning. I'm a very adaptive teacher, doing my best to teach in the most effective way possible for the student.

I would advise you to track your progress with that teacher. Have your grades improved since working with them? What about your attitude toward school? I couldn't tell you how to pick who's right for you, but I can tell you if they're not helping you, they're not a good fit.
