About Katie

I am a college student currently in my senior year in the education program at the University of North Texas. I am an elementary education major but have always had a passion and strength in writing and English based studies. I have worked with students on all levels from 3rd grade to college level to improve their English scores and increase their ability and love for writing.

I love getting to see the improvements in my students. When they succeed and achieve new milestones in their learning it is the best reward for me.

I have always loved English studies/ creative writing and have always had a passion for teaching and helping students and peers. I began Tutoring a few years ago in 2018 and had great success and reward from helping my students.

I have a current 4.0 at UNT as an education major with English heavy courses currently and past and current experience tutoring English and Literature with students

About the lesson

I like to have a meeting before either my students or their parents decide to hire me as a tutor so it's more of a comfortable transition for everyone when tutoring begins. We can either meet up, Have a video meeting or phone call. Whatever is easier and preferred for the client. At the time of tutoring sessions can either be done through:

- face to face (either at a home or local establishment such a coffee shop etc.)

-video call (such as Zoom, FaceTime, Skype)

I have worked with students from 3rd-12tg grade with creative writing and test prep to working on homework assignments given by teachers.

On the college level I have worked with students in comp 1 classes, technical, writing, and teaching English classes. I have also helped proofread student's essays and assignments before submission.

I have been tutoring a student with ADHD and ODD since March of 2018 and have seen drastic improvements in her grades.

You have to find a tutor that you work well with. It is okay not to love every style of teaching a teacher utilizes. However it is imperative to find a teacher that will cater his/her teaching methods to the student's needs. I always try to put my student's learning needs and learning styles at the forefront while working with them. If a certain method is not working we have to be innovative and figure out a new method together. Improvement in a subject starts with learning how to love and approach the subject in your own way.

I recently got a text from a parent of one of my middle school students that her daughter had received her first A in an English course in her entire academic career. That was a special moment for me because it made me feel extremely intrinsicly rewarded and gave me a sense of purpose.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kind of expectations does the teacher have for the student and well as what expectations does the student have for the teacher. It is always okay to ask.

$65 per hour.
No matter the method of tutor unless I have to drive over 30 miles to reach the client my price increase to $75 per hour.
