About Janie
My experience is very diverse, which allows me to connect to students in meaningful ways.
I enjoy seeing students achieve their goals, despite various obstacles they may be encountering.
I started teaching as a genetics lab assistant in undergrad, then taught full-time in public schools on the middle school and high school levels for three years. I later moved to working in higher education. In higher ed, I mostly worked in roles supporting struggling students for several years, but I also worked as an adjunct faculty member for a semester.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and biology, a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Biology and Secondary English, and a Juris Doctor (law degree).

When first meeting with a new student, I like to ask a lot of questions to give the student an opportunity to explain the issues they are having. It is important to know what the student has already tried, what is frustrating for the student, and the resources the student has already tried.
