About Nethmin
I am a college student who enjoyed taking advanced classes in high school and I am hoping to use my experience to help other students. I recently took many AP exams and honors courses, so the experience that I have will be very similar to the course a student is taking. I also recently went through the college application process and was admitted to Pitzer College. I have experience with standardized testing and getting into selective schools.
When I was a student in high school, I was very involved with teaching and mentoring younger students, both on the debate team and in other classes. When I graduated, I started to privately tutor many debaters.
In high school, I took many advanced (AP and Honors) courses that prepared me to engage with high-level academic material and prepare for difficult exams. As such, I am much better equipped to help other students to tackle those same challenges. I have also experienced the college application process and I was admitted to multiple selective colleges, so I am able to help students earn the scores needed for selective schools. I can also help students with the creation of college application materials (essays, personal statements, etc.) if needed. Lastly, I am an experienced coach and tutor. I was involved in competitive debate in high school and I now coach and tutor multiple students in debate. These arrangements have given me experience with both one-on-one tutoring and classroom-style lecturing.

When working with a new student, I will first take time to understand how a student learns best. This can include communicating with them via email, having a video meeting, or having them fill out a survey so that I can learn how they best absorb information and how they prefer for material to be presented. After that, I will talk with the student about the subject(s) I will be assisting them with, such that I can understand what conceptual gaps I need to help fill and what topics or methods they are unfamiliar with. Through understanding a student's learning style and their interactions with specific subjects, I can craft a teaching style that is unique to the student.
I have worked with a variety of students. Some of my students learn more visually, whereas some learn more through examples and demonstrations. Additionally, I have worked with students who are very experienced in the subjects they are studying, as well as students who are very new to things like AP exams and standardized testing. I am able to relate to and teach a wide variety of students and I focus on adapting my instruction to the needs of the student.

Details
I generally charge $15-$18 an hour, however, those rates are negotiable if students find that a lower rate would be more financially accessible for them. My goal is primarily to help students, and as such, I am willing to adjust my pricing.
